Although I work in many mediums my youtube video contributions are mostly about some of the more interesting machine projects that come though my home based shop in the back country woods of the sierra Nevada Mountains in Nevada City, California.
I put at least one video a week up and sometimes more.
Also visit my website at www.nikcolyer.com.

G'day Mr Nik, Its looking good ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia
Hey thanks Kevin. I made that a while back but it is a good video.
Lookin good!!
Hey thanks.
Very nice work sir
Hey thanks. I checked out your channel. interesting.
@@NikColyerMachineWorks Thanks. Appreciate your input
@@RustyInventions-wz6ir Hey, thanks for commenting on my channel too.
getting there! Thanks for sharing
It's a slow process.
G'day Mr Nik, Enjoy your romantic drive with Mrs Nik. Behave yourselves. 😍 Thanks for sharing the video. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Canoed up a tidal river and saw some sea otters. It was a nice 5 days off.
G'day Mr Nik, Great to see a new project. F.T.S. But story time is always good. So thanks for sharing and I'll see you next week. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
I can’t help thinking I have seen this before. Is this an old project. I seem to remember suggesting you machine the cut out before drilling the hole.
Because I have no machine shop orders coming in I'm forced to post an old video. As soon as something come in I'll film and post it.
Happy days Nik, have a wonderful one buddy
The days are hot and dry, perfect summer weather.
Far our buddy, our Summer is wet and gray so far, here in merry old England
What an idiot!
Judge not least you be judged!
Hey, just a shout out keep up the good work and by the way, I have the same MAS lathe !
Great old lathe. Real workhorse.
When April hit the paid work slowed down considerably too at my shop.
Always great work Nik, I'm sure we all enjoy your videos no matter what
Thanks for your support, Ralfy
G'day Mr Nik, At 23, it would most definitely be home. 🤩 Looking at the gates your making there not bad. If i lived close by I'd be getting you to make a replica of the kings gates. Elvis. Anyway thanks for sharing your work and the story. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Hey, thanks Kevin. Yes Melborn would be a bit for shipping.
Biden's America
It's an election year. Everything stalls out during elections.
When you become senile, you take income where you can get it!
Boy ain;t that the truth
At 23 I think I would have had the reaction. Here's hoping that the machining part of your business picks up soon. KOKO!
Hey, thanks for the well wishes.
I think making gates is fun. I like to do it.
Gates are fun. We are in the middle of 192 feet (64 meters) of straight up and down rails. . .boring!
Nice to hear a story again. It’s been a while since you’ve posted on your story time channel.
I didn't post for a few months so youtube shut the channel down. I can no longer access it.
That’s too bad, you’re a good story teller. You’ve had a very exciting life. Hope to hear more at some point on your original channel.
How about more stories?
I've got a ton of stories, but I lose subscribers by the dozens each time I do.
Might be boring for a creative person, but they are beautiful - and likely very exciting to the recipient. I love your work. Always fascinated to see how these things come together.
Some are not boring but plain straight up and down guard rails are mostly what lands in my shop. Maybe I'll try filming a rail job just for fun.
Those are very artfull (if that’s a word) gates. Takes some layout skills👍
That one squarish rail was very artful and fun especially making the jig to repeat the pattern.
Very nice work sir
Hey, thanks.
Lol 😅😅😅
You make me laugh , 😅 " even though I'm not a mother," lol, nice work, Nick .
Close as I come to mother is mo/fo
Well done.
Hey thanks. It was fun
Very nice work sir
G'day Mr Nik, If you get the chance Knipex sell pliers with a soft jaw. A very hand piece of kit. Anyway a great video. Thanks for sharing and I'll see you in next week's adventure. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Great job nik, great video, keep'um coming..
Thanks. It was a fun one for me.
Hi Nik, The green lathe you started this project on, is it a Colchester made in England? I worked a Colchester exactly the same during my apprenticeship with all the same levers etc in the same places except the start lever was the one on the front with a red knob but it looks like you have converted to a button start. Cheers Ian
I had to convert because I don't have 3 phase electricity. That's what the white box is; a converter.
WOW- I'm assuming your customer sent you a box of those little slugs thinking he was saving money by cutting them himself. Working off a piece of bar stock you could have probably made 3 at a time with no change of setup.
With a lathe that was in any kind of decent shape I could have made 3 at a time. We are talking about a worn out lathe made in 1954, "loose as a goose". I found long ago to stay close to the chuck if I want to be accurate.
@@NikColyerMachineWorks You know your lathe , but it looks like those dimensions were not real critical. Chuck your bar stock, drill and tap 3-4" deep, bring up live center for support and machine , part off, machine, part off, machine, part off. The entire turning could be done with a parting tool.
Hey Nik, ever hear the old saying -"The latch string is always out"
G'day Mr Nik, I'm not 100% on how this works yet. I'm almost there. Hopefully I'll see it in place next video. Q. When your on site next, is there any chance of seeing some of the fence extensions. So thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Hey Nik, missed this one, just catching up buddy, best wishes
G'day, Mr Nik. It's an interesting piece your making. I'll see you in the next video. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
First thing Tuesday morning Hi Nic from Mentor, Ohio
I try to be consistent.
Is Jason the name of your cat?
Jason is the name of my apprentice.
Nick scores again !!!! Nice work. 😊
Hey thanks Darell.
fun video. by the way if you angle your top slide 6 degrees from parallel to the ways, .001 at the dial = .0001 at the work piece. this can be especially handy when using the tool post grinder. hope this helps thanks for sharing. see you soon.
Hey, I'll check that out.
G'day Mr Nik, This has been an interesting project. Have you got a new job to go onto. So thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia
For the first time in 12 years I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for machine projects and videos. I'm sure something will emerge
Hi again from Mentor, Ohio Keep em coming
Having too much fun to stop.
Good one Young feller I tried to send you a email about your book
Send email to: nik@nikcolyer.com
MIssion accomplished! this was a good one.
It was a good one and I made some cash.
Happy days Nik, lots of love to you buddy
Another good one.
nice sponsor you have HUNTS tomato paste
Either hunts or Hershey's chocolate. I inherited about 20 of those cans.
nice work Nik!!
Getting that cam right was a nail biter though.
Good episode Nic. Thank you very much. I always enjoy your channel. Its growing. you're an international star. thank you again. Drew Charles in California
Star, I don't know, but a few followers. What part of california?
G'day Mr Nik, Some 🎻ly bits this week, but you nailed it. Q. Has the hinge thingo that was being done. Did that get finished or on hold for the moment. So thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
The aluminum double hinge thing I did maybe 5 years ago?
@@NikColyerMachineWorks The mill bit sharpener. Was that finished and shown working.
@@kevinhamling1963 Yes. . .kind of. A big job came in and I have been busy ever since. SOme day I'll do a in depth sharpening.
Just had your channel come up on my feed. Subscribed. As a newbie, I start my taps by using drill chuck in tailstock to hold it while turning the lathe chuck..
Yeah, I start my taps that way too normally. I can't remember why but I couldn't do that one so point and shoot.
I remember now, I didn't want to scratch up the pristine condition of that tap.
Good morning, Nick! It's a gorgeous Northern California morning and, as a bonus, we get one of your videos! A glorious day to you, sir!
It was a gorgeous morning but the afternoon is looking a bit dark and cloudy. It is spring so it's expected. I like cloudy days anyhow.
